Nigeria's starting XI v Cameroon: Aina, Iwobi, Onyeka, Lookman, Zaidu start; Omeruo, Aribo not in XI
Published: January 27, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that José Peseiro has released his starting lineup for the Super Eagles' round of 16 tie with Cameroon.
The former Porto coach has made four changes to the side that started against Guinea Bissau with former Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi, former Watford defender William Troost-Ekong, Porto fullback Zaidu Sanusi and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman being reinstated into the starting line up.
Kenneth Omeruo, Joe Aribo, Samuel Chukwueze and Bright Osayi-Samuel have made way for the aforementioned players.
Peseiro has opted to stick with his 3-4-3 formation for the third consecutive game and has unsurprisingly kept faith with Stanley Nwabali in goal.
Semi Ajayi will continue his stint at right center back, Calvin Bassey at left center back while Ekong will play in between them as the sweeper.
Cobham product Ola Aina returns to his right wing-back role, replacing Bright Osayi-Samuel while Zaidu Sanusi will play on the opposite flank.
Partnering Iwobi in the middle of the park is Frank Onyeka who has started all games so far and only failed to complete the encounter against Guinea-Bissau.
In attack, Samuel Chukwueze has dropped to the bench for the second time in the tournament and has been replaced by Ademola Lookman who came on as a substitute for him against the Wild Dogs.
Completing the lineup is Moses Simon who is set to start for the second consecutive game for the first time in the completion and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria's starting lineup v Cameroon: Nwabali; Ajayi, Troost-Ekong, Bassey; Aina, Onyeka, Iwobi, Zaidu; Moses Simon, Lookman, Osimhen
