Super Eagles team news: Nwabali knows fate by Wednesday; Troost-Ekong, Osimhen resume training today
Published: January 30, 2024
The Super Eagles have started preparations for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal tie against Angola with a recovery session held on Monday, two days after their convincing win against the Indomitable Lions, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
As is the norm, the players that started and played majority of the game against Cameroon loosened up a bit while the others that didn't taste action or came in as late substitutes trained fully at the Ecole Nationale de la Police.
Stanley Nwabali is racing against the clock to be fit for the game against Angola as he didn't train with the team at all yesterday.
The Chippa United glovesman was stretchered off the pitch on Saturday night after coming off worse in a collision with Cameroon number 10 Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.
Nwabali, who has undergone tests to ascertain the severity of his knee injury, walked around the pitch alone as the other players took part in more physical activities.
Manager Jose Peseiro will make a decision on whether or not to include him in the matchday squad to face Angola by Wednesday.
Central defender William Troost-Ekong and striker Victor Osimhen sat out yesterday's training session, with both given a breather after the physically exhausting game against Cameroon.
Contrary to sensational reports suggesting that Troost-Ekong and Osimhen are doubtful for the clash against the Palancas Negras, the official word is that there is absolutely nothing to worry about as the duo will resume full training on Tuesday, January 30.
