Everton and Luton Town learn asking price for Arsenal's Hale End product Akpom
Published: January 30, 2024
Ajax Amsterdam have reportedly named their asking price for Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom.
According to De Telegraaf, via Voetbal Primeur, Ajax currently value the Arsenal Hale End Academy product at between fifteen and twenty million euros and want to use the proceeds from his sale to bring in another experienced player before the close of the January transfer window.
English Premier League clubs Everton and Luton Town have been credited with an interest in Akpom with a loan move mooted but the Dutch daily newspaper has clarified that any club that want to loan in the player must include a mandatory purchase option in the contract.
The Nigerian is open to a departure from Ajax Amsterdam partly due to a lack of playing time and he doesn't want to play second fiddle to first choice striker Brian Brobbey for the remainder of the season.
Last summer, Ajax reached an agreement with Middlesbrough for the acquisition of Akpom in exchange for 12.3 million euros and the attacker put pen to paper on a five-year contract until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
After struggling in his first two months at Ajax, Akpom has scored nine goals in his last twelve games since the start of November.
Akpom mustered 28 goals in the Championship last season to win the division's Golden Boot and was named the inaugural winner of the PFA Championship Players' Player of the Year Award.
He has not figured for Ajax in their last two matches in the Eredivisie due to illness.
