Photo: Nwaneri named in Arsenal's travelling squad to Nottingham but omitted from gameday squad
Published: January 30, 2024
Ethan Nwaneri traveled with the Arsenal first team to the City Ground for the ongoing Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
According to photos posted by Arsenal on their official Instagram account ahead of kickoff, Nwaneri was among the two academy players that arrived with the first team at Nottingham Forest, the other being teenage defender Reuell Walters.
While Walters has received his eighteenth call-up for a first team game but starts on the bench, the English-Nigerian attacking midfielder has failed to crack the gameday squad.
The England U17 international of Nigerian descent was involved in Arsenal's final training session before the trip to Nottingham.
Nwaneri has not figured for Arsenal's first team since entering into the history books as the youngest player in history to feature in the top-flight of English football, aged 15 years and 181 days against Brentford on September 18, 2022.
This season, the 16-year-old was not utilized off the bench by manager Mikel Arteta in Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup games.
Nwaneri has been in brilliant form for Arsenal youth teams this term, tallying eleven goals in ten all-competition appearances, including five goals in a single game against Crewe Alexandra in the FA Youth Cup.
Meanwhile, Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has been named in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time since November 12, 2023 but starts on the bench against the Gunners.
