'Wasted all of them' - Alan Shearer blasts Madueke for his performance in Chelsea's loss to Liverpool
Published: February 25, 2024English Premier League legend Alan Shearer has slammed Noni Madueke for his performance during Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup showpiece on Sunday evening at the National Stadium in London.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool were crowned winners of the Carabao Cup for a record tenth time after Man of the Match Virgil van Dijk headed in a corner from Kostas Tsimikas in the 118th minute.
In what was his first-ever appearance at Wembley, Madueke entered the game as a substitute in the 97th minute to replace
Conor Gallagher as Chelsea searched for the winning goal.
Madueke was guilty of not making the right decisions in the final third, something which angered his Chelsea teammates.
Nine minutes from time, the Anglo-Nigerian missed a chance to open the scoring when he cut inside and tried his luck from distance but Reds goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher gathered on his second attempt after initially fumbling the save.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Shearer said: "Madueke has had three really good opportunities and he has wasted all of them, he did exactly what Liverpool wanted him to do there."
Former PSV star Madueke appeared in five matches in this season's Carabao Cup and got on the score sheet twice.
