Butler-Oyedeji battles Saka, 7 others for Arsenal Goal of the Month for February
Published: March 04, 2024
Through their official website, Premier League giants Arsenal have announced the shortlist for the club's Goal of the Month award for February 2024 with a Nigeria-eligible forward making the cut.
The Gunners first team, Women's and academy teams netted 36 goals combined last month and nine of the strikes have been picked in the Goal of the Month poll.
Nigeria's Olympic national team-eligible player Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has been nominated for his goal in Arsenal's 4-2 win against Southampton in the Premier League 2 on February 16.
Two minutes into the contest, the 21-year-old, who is back at Arsenal after spending the first half of the season on loan at Cheltenham Town, broke the deadlock when he caught the Southampton goalkeeper off his line and curled the ball into the top corner.
Butler-Oyedeji has to see off competition from eight other rivals to win the monthly accolade.
His goal is up against efforts from first team stars Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, while the women have two nominees in the shape of Alessia Russo and Cloe Lacasse.
Completing the shortlist is a strike from development squad forward Osman Kamara who was also on target against Southampton.
Nathan Butler-Oyedeji received two call-ups for first team games in January 2023 before joining Accrington Stanley on loan.
