Teenage right-back Habeeb Ogunneye named in Man Utd's travelling squad to face Coventry City
Published: April 20, 2024
England youth international of Nigerian descent, Habeeb Ogunneye is in contention to make his senior debut for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon when they take on Coventry City in the semifinals of the Emirates FA Cup.
According to Manchester Evening News, the 18-year-old right-back traveled with the Manchester United first team to London on Saturday afternoon, on the eve of the semifinal clash at the Wembley Stadium.
Ogunneye trained with Manchester United's first team this week before the trip to the English capital.
Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is faced with an injury crisis ahead of the game against the Sky Blues, with Willy Kambwala, Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount unlikely to be available for selection.
Ogunneye, a former England U17 international, has yet to make his first team debut for Manchester United.
This season, the talented defender has received four call-ups for Premier League games against Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool and Bournemouth, and was also a non-playing substitute against Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
He was not involved as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur shared the spoils in the Premier League 2 on Saturday, and did not feature for the U18s against Wolves four days ago.
Ogunneye is aiming to become the first player of Nigerian descent to play for Manchester United's first team since Shola Shoretire in May 2022.
