Fulham interested in Manchester United youth product as replacement for Tosin
Published: June 12, 2024
According to reports, Fulham are eyeing the Championship for a replacement for Tosin Adarabioyo whose contract with the Cottagers runs out at the end of this month.
Tosin has already signed a four-year deal with Premier League giants Chelsea and his transfer to the Blues will be completed on July 1, 2024.
The London-born Nigerian defender has joined the Stamford Bridge outfit as a free agent after turning down a new contract that would have made him one of the best paid players at Craven Cottage.
The Evening Standard, via Sky Sports UK, says Fulham are keen on Luton centre-back Teden Mengi and plan to sign at least two defenders this summer.
An England U21 international, Mengi was on the books of Manchester United for fourteen years, rising through the youth team ranks to make his first team debut for the Old Trafford outfit in a Europa League match against LASK in August 2020, a game where Odion Ighalo led the attack for the Red Devils.
The 22-year-old ended a long association with Manchester United in August 2023 with his transfer to Luton Town.
Fulham want to add to their defensive options following Tosin's exit and the imminent departure of Tim Ream to Major League Soccer League club Charlotte FC, which would leave Issa Diop and Calvin Bassey as the club's only recognized center-backs.
Last season, Mengi made his Premier League debut at Everton and went on to play 29 more games, but Luton Town were unable to avoid relegation.
