Man Utd inquire about Borussia Dortmund forward who chose Germany over Nigeria
Published: November 15, 2025
Manchester United have made an inquiry over the availability of Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi.
Born in Munich, Adeyemi was eligible to represent Nigeria through his father and Romania through his mother, but chose to commit his international future to his country of birth, Germany.
Since making his senior debut in a World Cup qualifier against Armenia in 2021, he has gone on to earn 11 caps for the national team.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg confirmed United contacted Adeyemi's representative, Jorge Mendes, to obtain fresh information on the forward's situation.
"Manchester United have inquired about Karim Adeyemi and obtained information from Jorge Mendes. The situation continues to be monitored," Plettenberg wrote on X.
Borussia Dortmund are attempting to negotiate a contract extension with the 23-year-old, whose current deal runs until 2027.
Talks have stalled amid a disagreement over the inclusion of a release clause, with Adeyemi and his camp reportedly insisting that such a clause be inserted into any new agreement.
The impasse has generated interest from several top clubs, with Manchester United among those monitoring developments closely.
Dortmund remain intent on retaining Adeyemi but face mounting pressure to either concede on a release clause or consider offers should negotiations fail to progress.
Reports earlier in the season suggested minor tensions between Adeyemi and manager Niko Kovač, including a touchline incident that underlined a potentially strained relationship.
Those reports, combined with fluctuating form in recent months, have increased scrutiny of the player’s long-term role at the Bundesliga club.
