Daughter of ex-Super Eagles striker becomes cap-tied to Sweden after attending Nigeria training camp
Published: July 13, 2024
By making her competitive debut for Sweden on Friday night, Evelyn Ijeh, daughter of retired international striker Peter Ijeh, became cap-tied to her country of birth, Sweden, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Evelyn and her younger sister Josephine Ijeh trained with the Super Falcons in Vienna, Austria in the summer of 2021, before the Aisha Buhari invitational tournament.
The AC Milan forward is no longer eligible to represent the Super Falcons after she was named in Sweden's starting lineup as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to European giants France in a 2025 European Championship qualifier staged at the Stade Gaston-Gérard in Dijon.
Ijeh gave a good account of herself on her senior debut, considering the fact that she remained on the pitch for 73 minutes before making way for Madeleine Janogy.
After the game, she received amazing reviews from teammates and pundits for her performance against the French team.
A player with pace and ability to play as a striker or winger, she is widely regarded as one of the most promising players hailing from Scandinavia.
Prior to her maiden appearance for the Swedes, Ijeh was provisionally cap-tied to her country of birth having played in competitive matches for the U19 squad.
A crucial match on Tuesday sees Ijeh and her Sweden teammates taking on England, who hold a three-point advantage over the Blue and Yellow.
