Paul and Clara Dorgu were delighted to see their son, Patrick Dorgu score on his competitive debut for Denmark in a UEFA Nations League tie versus Switzerland on Thursday, September 9.
While Paul and Clara Dorgu are originally from Nigeria, Patrick was born and raised in Denmark.
Patrick Dorgu had a dream debut as he needed only forty-seven seconds to score his first goal for the Scandinavian bench, after coming off the bench to replace Victor Nelsson in the 81st minute.
The 19-year-old earned caps for Denmark at U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels prior to his senior debut for the 1992 European champions.
Dorgu, who is regarded as one of the best young prospects in football at left-back, was promoted to Denmark's first team following his outstanding performances for Lecce in the Serie A.
After the game, Paul and Clara Dorgu spoke to the Danish press about their son's debut.
"It is very, very exciting, and we are very happy about it. I hardly know what to say, but we are very happy, " says Paul Dorgu to TV2.
Clara Dorgu added: 'Firstly, I want to thank God for everything, because it is He who does everything.
"I'm really happy, and it's wonderful, because it's the first time he's made the national team.
"And then he plays well and scores a goal after a few seconds. I don't know what to say. I am speechless. But it was nice."
The parents are extremely thankful to Denmark for making their son's dream a reality on Thursday night.
"It was a lovely evening and we are very happy. And the whole family is here, and so is his agent. We are very happy with what he is doing and the hard work he has done to make the national team.
"We also thank the whole of Denmark for giving him the chance to come up and do something for Denmark. We are very happy about that," Paul Dorgu said.
Patrick Dorgu played in his second game for Denmark on Sunday, coming off the bench for the last twenty-two minutes of a 2-0 victory against Serbia.
