Confirmed: Gaziantep FK loan in Okereke; free agents Onyedinma, Ladapo join new English clubs
Published: September 11, 2024
Three Nigerian players - David Okereke, Freddie Ladapo and Fred Onyedinma - joined new clubs on Tuesday, September 10.
Turkish Super Lig club Gaziantep FK have announced the signing of Cremonese forward David Okereke on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to buy included in the deal.
The former Nigeria U23 international, who has played in the Champions League 7 times, has scored 57 goals and provided 26 assists in 268 matches combined for the clubs he has represented.
Okereke has already started training with his new teammates ahead of a possible debut against Sivasspor on Saturday, September 14.
Elsewhere, Lagos-born forward Fred Onyedinma has returned to EFL League One club Wycombe Wanderers for a fourth spell on a free transfer.
Onyedinma had been searching for a new team following his release by Luton Town upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2024.
He enjoyed two loan spells at the Chairboys during his time at boyhood club Millwall before sealing a permanent transfer to the club in 2019.
Onyedinma attracted concrete interest from Amedspor in the summer transfer window but did not agree terms with the Turkish First League club before his return to Wycombe Wanderers.
Another former free agent, Freddie Ladapo has a new employer, eleven days after Premier League side Ipswich Town mutually parted ways with the forward.
The 2011 Flying Eagles invitee has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with League One team Huddersfield Town.
So far in his career, the 31-year-old has found the net 95 times, with 67 of those goals coming in League One during his stints with Colchester United, Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town, Southend United, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United, Ipswich Town, and Charlton.
Ladapo has been assigned the number 19 shirt at Huddersfield Town and is available for selection with immediate effect.
