Super Eagles star Maduka Okoye ranked Serie A's top goalkeeper in two key categories
Published: November 24, 2024
Nigeria international Maduka Okoye has been ranked as the top goalkeeper in the whole of the Italian Serie A in two categories, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
According to stats from Sofascore, Okoye has made the most saves from inside the box in the current season.
With 30 saves to his name, the Super Eagles star ranked higher than Parma's Zion Suzuki (29), Torino's Vanja Milinković-Savić (28), Monza's Stefano Turati (25), and Lecce's Wladimiro Falcone (25).
When it comes to the difference between expected goals and goals actually conceded, Okoye outperforms other Serie A goalkeepers.
So far this season, the Udinese glovesman has conceded eighteen goals while posting three shutouts in twelve matches in the Italian top flight, ahead of his side's meeting with Empoli on Monday, November 25.
Following a tough period at Watford where he made just two appearances, Okoye has thrived since transferring to the Bianconeri in August 2023, leading to a recall to the national team for their last eight internationals.
The former Fortuna Düsseldorf youth teamer made his first start for the Super Eagles in over two years during the November internationals, in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda's Wasps.
Having already secured qualification for the tournament in Morocco, the Super Eagles took their foot off the gas, which led to Okoye conceding two goals in the dead-rubber match.
Okoye's contract with Udinese was extended in August 2024, keeping him with the club through the 2027-2028 season.
