Latest update on Manchester United's interest in Nigeria striker with 69 career goals
Published: November 30, 2024
Head of Football Sport Bild, Christian Falk has provided an update on Manchester United's interest in Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
It was reported this week that Boniface is one of the strikers being considered by Manchester United ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
Finding a dependable center forward has been a persistent issue for Manchester United, and both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have yet to prove themselves since joining the club.
It is claimed that Boniface is on the shopping list of the Red Devils but a transfer in the January transfer window is unlikely, with Bayer Leverkusen still competing on three fronts - Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
The Nigeria international has established a reputation as one of the top young center forwards in the world, scoring 69 goals in 166 matches since moving to Europe in 2019.
Christian Falk revealed that Manchester United have not contacted Boniface or his representatives regarding a potential transfer, and a transfer does not appear to be imminent.
"We heard about Manchester United’s interest in Boniface. After further investigation, we found that no one has called him, his agents or the club as of yet," Falk told CaughtOffside in his exclusive Fact Files column.
"They don’t have to call, of course, as Leverkusen won’t sell him.
"Juventus knocked on his door and wanted to sign him on loan in the winter, but Leverkusen are not interested. They need Boniface and don’t want to let him go."
Boniface, who has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028, is currently recovering from a torn muscle fiber in his thigh, and will not be available for selection on Saturday afternoon when the Bundesliga champions travel to the German capital to face Union Berlin.
