'Their feeling will be different' - Fulham coach banks on Arsenal products including Iwobi to stun Tottenham
Published: December 01, 2024
Fulham manager Marco Silva is looking to his former Arsenal stars, including Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, to lead the charge against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
A victory would propel Fulham above their North London rivals in the Premier League standings, providing redemption after their recent setback against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Nigerian international in particular, has been a standout performer for Fulham this season.
Iwobi has seamlessly integrated into Silva's system, registering five goal contributions (three goals and two assists) in twelve Premier League appearances this term.
His recent form, highlighted by a stunning goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers, has earned him widespread praise.
The 47-year-old gaffer has placed his faith in Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, and Alex Iwobi, all products of Arsenal's Hale End academy, to be the difference-makers in the crucial clash.
While he hasn't explicitly discussed the match with the trio, he believes their Arsenal ties could ignite an extra spark of motivation.
"I haven't spoken with Emile, Reiss or with Alex about this situation," Silva admitted as quoted by the Daily Express.
"However, probably their feeling is going to be different about the game. If it can give them a different level of motivation, then it would be good for us.
"They are in Fulham now and they fight really hard for us. I know they are proud to be part of the club in this part of their careers."
As Fulham prepare to face their fierce rivals, Iwobi and his fellow Arsenal alums will be eager to leave their mark on the match and contribute to a potential upset.
Their experience and familiarity with the London derby atmosphere could prove crucial in securing a vital three points for the Cottagers.
The former Everton man became Nigeria's all-time assist provider in Premier League history on September 21, 2024 when he set up fellow Emile Smith Rowe, in a 3-1 win against Newcastle United at Craven Cottage, a key statistic he previously shared with the legendary Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu.
