Scottish champions Celtic eye January deal for Chelsea's Nigeria-eligible midfielder
Published: December 06, 2024
According to Football Insider, Scottish champions Celtic are considering a move for Chelsea midfielder of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of the January transfer window.
The Scottish Premiership table-toppers are said to be considering a loan move for the 21-year-old but will need the Blues to pay part of his wages to make a deal happen.
Celtic want to keep being competitive on all fronts by adding the Aston Villa academy product to their books in the mid-season transfer window.
The Hoops face competition for the out-of-favour midfielder as Ipswich Town have been credited with an interest in his signature.
The Premier League newcomers want to sign him on a permanent deal, which is in line with what Chelsea want.
The Stamford Bridge outfit want to sell him in January to fund a move for a new centre-back.
This could hand Ipswich the advantage in the race for the midfielder's signature, as Celtic only want him on a temporary deal.
Chukwuemeka is not in Enzo Maresca's plans and has enjoyed a limited amount of game time since the start of the season.
Hee is yet to start a game this season and has been limited to three substitute appearances in the Conference League and one in the Carabao Cup
