Obi-Martin shines with two goals as Manchester United progress in FA Youth Cup
Published: December 19, 2024
Danish-born Nigerian center forward Chido Obi-Martin played a pivotal role as Manchester United defeated Coventry City 5-0 to advance to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday.
Obi-Martin has quickly settled into life at the Red Devils after his departure from Arsenal.
After two brilliant finishes from Gabriele Biancheri inside ten minutes, Obi-Martin increased the lead three minutes later, slotting into the bottom corner after beating the Sky Blues' offside trap.
Seven minutes into the second half, United were awarded a free-kick after their number 9, Obi-Martin was fouled on the edge of the area.
The Danish-Nigerian wonderkid, who was on freekick duties, tucked the ball into the bottom left hand corner to make it 4-0.
Despite having the opportunity to score a hat-trick, Obi-Martin chose to let Gabriele Biancheri take a penalty, though the effort from the Wales U19 international was stopped by the Coventry City goalkeeper.
Obi looked for his hat-trick with a left-footed shot following some excellent footwork, but Luis Lines was there to deny him once more.
Eleven minutes before the final whistle, Biancheri found the net from close range to score his third goal of the night.
Manchester United will face Preston North End in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
