'Completely false' - Agent pours cold water on reports linking Sevilla's Iheanacho to Al Ahly
Published: January 08, 2025
Kelechi Iheanacho's agent, Roger Wittmann has dismissed reports linking Nigeria national teamer Kelechi Iheanacho with a transfer to African powerhouse Al Ahly SC in the January transfer window.
The Manchester City academy product is open to leaving Sevilla before the window closes due to a lack of first team opportunities.
Iheanacho has held showdown talks with Sevilla coach Xavier García Pimienta, informing him of his intention to depart from the seven-time Europa League winners, even if only temporarily.
He joined Sevilla last summer after his contract with Leicester City expired, but his time with the Andalusian club has been disappointing so far.
The Nigerian star has scored only three goals in 11 matches, all coming in the Copa del Rey, while he has yet to find the back of the net in La Liga.
It was claimed that Al Ahly plus teams from the United States, Greece, Turkey and England have made enquiries over the availability of the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner.
Reacting to the rumours linking Iheanacho with Al Ahly, Roger Wittmann dismissed the possibility of his client joining the 12-time African champions.
Speaking to Btolat, via Spanish sports daily AS, Wittmann said: "No one from Egypt has contacted us to talk about the player, so therefore the news that is out there is completely false."
Iheanacho was not called up for Sevilla's last match against UD Almeria amid speculation surrounding his future, and was not spotted in training on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old has a contract with Sevilla until June 30, 2026, with a club option for the 2026-2027 season.
