Nigerian centre-back breaks personal record after first Premier League goal for Chelsea
Published: January 20, 2025
London-born Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo broke his personal record for goals in a single season as Chelsea defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 in a Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Before Wolves' visit, Tosin had three goals for the season, equaling his best tally in a single campaign, following his brace against Morecambe in the Emirates FA Cup on January 11.
The Manchester City academy graduate bagged three goals in his first twenty-nine games during a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in 2019-2020.
Against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight, Tosin scored in the 24th minute after VAR ruled in Chelsea's favour, overturning an offside decision initially given when he scrambled the ball home from close range.
Tosin's first Premier League goal for the season took his tally to four, setting a new personal record for the 27-year-old.
He had scored for the Blues in the UEFA Conference League and FA Cup before reaching the career-high tally.
There was an eventful end to the first half with Matt Doherty capitalizing on a defensive error from a corner to equalize for Wolves in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time.
The second half saw Marc Cucurella netting in the 60th minute, followed by Noni Madueke's decisive touch to clinch victory five minutes later.
Tyrique George, who has been making waves for Chelsea's development squad and has worked his way into the first team, replaced Madueke with six minutes left on the clock.
Following the win, Enzo Maresca's side are back in the top four, above Manchester City and Newcastle United, and only four points behind Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
