Atalanta coach namechecks Lookman as he reveals four contenders to start in attack v Sturm Graz
Published: January 21, 2025
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has revealed his attacking options for their crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Sturm Graz on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via Tutto Atalanta, Gasperini confirmed that Lookman is among the four forwards vying for a starting spot.
"Retegui, Lookman, De Ketelaere and Samardzic are the ones who are doing better," he said.
"Charles is perhaps a bit off, Retegui has been out and I'm happy with Samardzic, he's a talented player who's been coming out a lot lately. I have four, three of these four will play."
Lookman has had a challenging start to 2025, managing just one goal in his last four appearances for the club this year.
Despite a slow start to 2025, Lookman has been an important player for Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League, as they aim to secure qualification to the quarterfinals.
The 27-year-old has tallied three goals and one assist in five UCL appearances this season, a contribution which has seen the club navigate difficult challenges in the tournament.
Atalanta currently sit 13th in the group standings with 11 points, just two points behind the quarterfinal qualification spots.
A win against Sturm Graz is crucial to keeping their European ambitions alive, and Lookman's contributions in attack would be pivotal.
The Nigerian forward will look to reignite his goal-scoring form and help his side secure a vital victory against the Austrian club.
With Gasperini's confidence in him, Lookman will aim to rise to the occasion under the Champions League spotlight.
