'Making good progress' - Leicester boss Van Nistelrooy confirms Ndidi's imminent return to full training
Published: January 30, 2025
Speaking to reporters at Thursday's pre-match press conference before his side's Premier League meeting with Everton, Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy shared encouraging news on the fitness of Wilfred Ndidi.
The Nigeria international has been inactive since suffering a hamstring injury during the 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove on December 8, 2024.
Since then, the defensive midfielder has missed eight consecutive Premier League games, with the Foxes losing seven in his absence.
Ndidi has begun partial team training and is recovering well, but he won’t be fit in time for Saturday’s game against the Toffees.
Van Nistelrooy is optimistic that the Nigeria international will make further progress in the weeks ahead.
In quotes relayed by Leicester City's official webpage, the Dutch football tactician stated: "Wilf is making good progress. He’s partially involved in team training.
"This week we're looking to bring him back into full team training and over the course of next week."
Before Ndidi's spell on the sidelines, he was one of the first names on the team sheet, having started fifteen games in a row in the top-flight.
There was speculation linking the former Racing Genk man with a move to Monaco but he has made it clear that he won't be jumping ship in the January transfer window as he wants to help Leicester City in their fight for survival.
In their latest Premier League fixture, Leicester City triumphed 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur, climbing out of the relegation spots but maintaining only a one-point lead over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town.
