Middlesbrough ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Sevilla forward Iheanacho
Published: February 01, 2025
Championship club Middlesbrough are reportedly currently the frontrunners to sign Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who is also drawing interest from Scottish champions Celtic.
According to Sky Sports UK, Middlesbrough are believed to be leading the race to sign Sevilla striker Iheanacho.
Talks between Celtic and the La Liga side over a possible loan move with a buy option for the 28-year-old took place, but no deal was finalized, and negotiations have not advanced today.
Iheanacho is angling for a move away from Sevilla due to a lack of first team opportunities after joining the club as a free agent in the summer of 2024 following the expiration of his contract at Leicester City.
The Manchester City academy graduate has started just seven games out of a possible twenty-five since he was acquired by the club based in the Andalusian province.
Iheanacho has not figured for the Rojiblancos since the January transfer window opened for business amid speculation surrounding his future and a minor injury.
Middlesbrough and Celtic are in the market for a striker ahead of deadline day on Monday.
The Hoops want to sign a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi who was sold to Rennes, while Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United are on the brink of acquiring Boro's Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Iheanacho has also been linked with French, Greek and Italian clubs in he January transfer window.
