Middlesbrough were active on transfer deadline day, bringing in marquee striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City star has departed La Liga club Sevilla on a temporary basis in search of adequate playing opportunities.
He is an experienced campaigner in English football as he's just four games shy of reaching a milestone of 300 appearances since he played his first game in England for Manchester City.
Iheanacho sealed his move to Middlesbrough on Monday but the transfer was not completed in time for him to be part of the squad for the Championship clash against Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium.
The Black Cats came from behind to secure a 3-2 win over Boro, thanks to an own goal from Ryan Giles.
Boro's signing of the Nigeria national teamer is an indication that Elephants striker Emmanuel Latte Lath is definitely leaving the club in the coming days, with speculation linking him with a record breaking move to Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United.
After the game against Sunderland, Manchester United legend Michael Carrick, who is the coach of Middlesbrough, was asked to share his thoughts on the signing of Iheanacho.
Carrick told Sky Sports: "Obviously delighted Kelechi is joining us. Unfortunately he wasn't able to be in time for tonight but he'd be an important player for us, have a big impact.
"We have got some good attacking players. We'll have a good week's training and settle everyone down again before we go again."
Iheanacho's first game in a Middlesbrough shirt could come on Wednesday, February 12 when they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
