Confirmed team news: Galatasaray striker Osimhen will not make Turkish Cup debut v Boluspor
Published: February 05, 2025
Galatasaray has announced its squad for the upcoming Ziraat Turkish Cup match against Boluspor, and one of the notable absentees is Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
The Super Lig leaders will travel to Boluspor for the second-round match, but Osimhen, who has been in scintillating form since joining the club, will not be making his first appearance in the Turkish Cup as he's not part of the squad.
The Nigerian striker has registered 22 goal involvements, including 17 goals and 5 assists, in 22 outings for the club.
Although the reason behind the club's decision to leave the Napoli-owned goal getter out of the squad is unknown, it remains to be seen how the Yellow and Reds will cope without their star striker.
Galatasaray's squad for the Boluspor match includes several key players, but Osimhen's was among seven players left out of the squad for the game.
The Nigerian striker has been instrumental in Galatasaray's success this season, helping the club establish a six-point advantage over Fenerbahçe in the current Süper Lig standings.
His performances have also earned him widespread recognition, with several top European clubs, including Chelsea and Juventus, reportedly interested in signing him.
Osimhen's future at Galatasaray remains uncertain, with the club facing a tough task in trying to sign him on a permanent deal.
Napoli, Osimhen's parent club, values the Nigerian striker at 75 million euros, a price tag that may be out of Galatasaray's reach.
The Istanbul club's financial limitations may force them to consider alternative options, but for now, they will have to make do without Osimhen's services in the Turkish Cup match against Boluspor.
Galatasaray's decision to leave Osimhen out of the squad for the Boluspor match may be a strategic one, given the club's priorities in the Süper Lig and the UEFA Europa League.
