Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reveals 'young superstar' Nwaneri will extend his Arsenal contract
Published: February 13, 2025
Arsenal are reportedly close to securing a contract extension for highly-rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri, following an injury crisis that has left the squad short of attacking options.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation via his YouTube channel, confirming that talks between Arsenal and Nwaneri's representatives are progressing positively.
The urgency to extend Nwaneri's contract has intensified after Kai Havertz suffered a season-ending injury on Wednesday, adding to Arsenal's selection woes.
The Gunners are already without Gabriel Jesus for the rest of the campaign, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are also sidelined for several weeks.
With multiple key players unavailable, Nwaneri has emerged as a potential attacking option for Mikel Arteta's squad.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been one of Arsenal's brightest young talents this season, impressing across various competitions.
So far, he has scored seven goals in 23 appearances, underlining his potential to make an impact at the senior level.
Speaking about Nwaneri's contract situation amid Arsenal's injury crisis, Romano expressed confidence that the young midfielder will extend his stay at the club.
He also revealed that discussions between Arsenal and the player's representatives over a contract extension are progressing positively.
"Kai Havertz out for the rest of the season, Martinelli, Bukayo Saka are out for weeks, and Gabriel Jesus is out for the rest of the season," Romano stated.
"Now they (Arsenal) have available the young superstar Ethan Nwaneri, who is going to extend the contract because the contacts are very positive.
"So Arsenal are working in that but obviously he's a very young kid, he's doing fantastic."
With his current contract set to expire in June 2026, the Gunners would hope to extend Nwaneri's contract to fend off interest for the young midfielder.
