'Very raw' - Danish pundit reveals what impressed him about Chido Obi after second Man Utd game
Published: February 22, 2025
Danish football pundit Lasse Vøge praised Denmark youth international of Nigerian descent Chido Obi following his second appearance for Manchester United's first team on Saturday.
The former Arsenal schoolboy hopped off the bench in the 70th minute as the Red Devils came from two goals down to salvage a point against Everton at Goodison Park.
After making his Premier League debut as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Obi's omission from the most recent matches played by Manchester United's U18s and development squad suggested he might stay with the senior team.
Obi has been promoted to United's first team on a temporary basis after his impressive performances for the youth teams, with fifteen goals to his name in all competitions.
Given more than 20 minutes on the pitch, Obi showcased his raw talent, proving that he is more than just a promising prospect.
BT sports editor Lasse Vøge highlighted Obi's physical presence, describing him as a player who is always ready to pounce on scoring opportunities.
Assessing the performance of Obi against Everton, Vøge wrote on BT Sports: "And then there was Chido Obi, who this time got more than 20 minutes.
"The 17-year-old Dane is still very raw - but it is clear that he has plenty of 'presence', as they say over there.
"He fills the box well and looks like a man who is ready to peck the ball into the box when the opportunity arises”
Though still developing, Obi's natural instincts and positioning suggest he could become a real threat in front of goal.
Should he keep developing at this pace, a place in Manchester United's first team could be within his grasp before long.
