'Didn't give him a break' - Pundit singles out one Fenerbahce player for praise after caging Osimhen
Published: February 27, 2025
Following Galatasaray's goalless draw with Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby on Monday evening, veteran Turkish pundit Şansal Büyüka singled out experienced Slovakia central defender Milan Skriniar for special praise.
Tasked with the difficult job of keeping Victor Osimhen in check, Skriniar rose to the occasion, successfully neutralizing the Napoli loanee for 89 minutes before an injury saw the striker substituted.
Skriniar limited the former African Footballer of the Year to one shot, which was not on target.
The 30-year-old kept Osimhen out of the danger zones, making six clearances and one interception while giving away a team-high three fouls.
Skriniar finished with 35 passes, bettered only by former Manchester United midfielder Fred in the Fenerbahce squad.
The Yellow Canaries are now the fifth team in the Turkish Super Lig to shut Osimhen out from scoring or assisting since his arrival in Turkey, joining Bodrum FK, Trabzonspor, Gaziantep FK and Adana Demirspor.
The goalless outcome of the match was largely influenced by Skriniar’s tight marking of Osimhen.
Speaking on the Sports Digitale Youtube channel, via habersarikirmizi.com, Şansal Büyüka commented: "Skriniar didn't give a guy like Osimhen a break.
"Osimhen couldn't come back. Osimhen played his least effective match in a Galatasaray jersey since he came. Because he couldn't get out."
Osimhen has produced fourteen goals and four assists in nineteen Super Lig matches.
