Published: March 17, 2025
Granada midfielder Obi Anthony has been handed a call-up to the Flying Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Nigeria U20s coach Aliyu Zubairu will observe him at close quarters this month with a view to his possible inclusion in his squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast.
Anthony, who represents Granada Club de Fútbol 's Juvenil A team, is expected to report for international duty in Katsina on Monday, March 17.
The Nazaríes secured his services in December 2024, following his stint with Spanish Tercera Federación team Moralo CP.
Renowned for his flair and creativity, the dynamic midfielder moved from Spain's fifth tier to Granada in a big career jump.
The U20 Afcon, set to take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025 in Ivory Coast, will feature thirteen teams competing for continental glory and four qualification spots for the Fifa U20 World Cup Chile 2025.
The Flying Eagles are set to compete in Group B, where they will take on former champions Egypt and Morocco, along with South Africa.
In preparation for the tournament, Nigeria played two friendly matches against the Young Elephants last month, securing a 2-0 victory in the first game but falling by the same margin in the second.
