Russian-born footballer who wants to play for Super Eagles names Danish Superliga's best striker
Published: March 30, 2025
FC Copenhagen loanee German Onugkha believes that AGF's Patrick Mortensen is currently the best striker in the Danish Superliga.
Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, the forward confirmed in September 2024 that he was open to representing the Super Eagles after rejecting a call-up to the Russian national team.
Onugkha returned for a second spell at Vejle BK in the January transfer window due to a lack of first team opportunities at parent club FC Copenhagen.
After struggling in the first half of the season, the dual-national footballer is now operating at full throttle, having netted in six consecutive matches in the Danish top-flight.
While Aarhus GF captain Patrick Mortensen has sixteen league goals to his name, the Russian-Nigerian striker has tallied ten from fifteen appearances.
Even though Onugkha scored in all league matches he played in during 2015, he remained modest and did not consider himself the best striker in the division, although he once called himself the best striker at FC Copenhagen.
"We can talk about that when the season is over. Right now it's Patrick Mortensen who has scored more than me, and he's fighting in the top half of the league," Onugkha said, according to bold.dk.
"So right now he is the best in the league."
With a smile, German Onugkha responded, "Let's see," when asked if he was aiming for the top scorer award.
Onugkha was top scorer in the Danish Superliga last season with fifteen goals in 31 matches.
