'Needs to regain his form' - Former Besiktas midfielder questions Osimhen's impact in high level games
Published: April 01, 2025
Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin has criticized Victor Osimhen for his inability to deliver in high-profile games, following Galatasaray's 2-1 defeat to Besiktas on Saturday.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, played the full 90 minutes but failed to inspire his team to victory, ending their unbeaten run in the Turkish Super Lig.
His performance has drawn criticism, with Engin questioning his impact in crucial matches.
Speaking on the Assist Analysis YouTube channel, as reported by habersarikirmizi, the Turkish analyst dismissed Osimhen's big-game credentials.
"Osimhen can never come on stage in big matches. If Osimhen is worth 75 million Euros, I am worth 100 million Euros to Rafa Silva," Engin said.
He also criticized Galatasaray's over reliance on the Nigerian striker, urging him to rediscover his goalscoring form, especially in decisive moments.
"When Osimhen stops, Galatasaray stops too. Osimhen needs to regain his form, especially in high-level matches. Very critical matches will be played from now on," he added.
Despite the criticism, Osimhen has been instrumental in Galatasaray's title defense, contributing 24 goals (20 goals, 4 assists) in 23 league appearances, keeping them six points ahead of rivals Fenerbahce.
However, his record in big games remains a concern, with only one goal in matches against Turkey's top teams, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor.
With eight games left in the season, Osimhen will be eager to silence his critics and prove his ability to shine in decisive fixtures as Galatasaray pushes for the Super Lig title.
