Super Eagles striker Dessers on his Rangers future, reveals number of goals he's aiming for
Published: April 25, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed his strong desire to remain at Rangers beyond the current season, putting to rest lingering speculation about his future at the Scottish giants.
The Nigerian international, who joined Rangers two summers ago, has endured a mixed campaign marked by both individual highs and team struggles.
Despite reports linking him with a potential move during the January transfer window — with clubs such as Cagliari, Empoli and Leganés reportedly interested — Dessers now appears firmly focused on continuing his journey in Glasgow.
Speaking at a press conference, the 30-year-old forward reaffirmed his commitment to the club and outlined his ambitions for the remainder of the season and beyond.
"I am very keen,” Dessers told reporters when asked about staying at Rangers.
"For me, I came here two summers ago with the ambition to fight for trophies and win trophies. I am sitting here, with an amazing run in Europe but with a trophy. I don’t think that’s enough.
"I am really hungry to win trophies and silverware at this club. So for me, I am very keen. But there’s going to be a lot happening and I am looking forward to it as well."
With Rangers expected to undergo a major reshuffle this summer, including a potential takeover and squad overhaul, Dessers’ reaffirmed commitment will be welcome news for the club’s faithful.
Beyond his future, the Nigerian forward also shared his personal goals for the season, revealing he is close to surpassing a key milestone.
"Obviously, you want to score every game. I think I have like 23 goals now for the season, it will be very nice to surpass 25," he said.
"But the most important, I just want to win these games and have a very good feeling with the team. We have been through a lot during the season and it would be nice to end the season on a positive note."
With the final stretch of the season underway, Dessers will be hoping to lead Rangers to a strong finish — and add more silverware to his tally.
