'Tolu can still play three' - STVV forward admits Genk's Arokodare has the edge in Golden Boot race
Published: May 05, 2025
Sint-Truidense V.V. forward Adriano Bertaccini is currently tied at the top of the scoring charts with Racing Genk’s Tolu Arokodare as the Belgian Jupiler Pro League season approaches its final stretch.
While the Nigeria international fired blanks in his most recent league outing versus Union Saint-Gilloise, Adriano Bertaccini scored twice against Cercle Brugge to match the Genk striker's total of twenty for the season.
Bertaccini has one last opportunity to add to his tally in STVV's final match against KV Kortrijk on May 10, while Arokodare could feature in up to three more games with Genk still in the playoffs.
The former Belgian youth international has admitted that the race for the Golden Boot appears tilted in Arokodare’s favour.
"Will that be enough to also become top scorer? That will be difficult," Bertaccini told Het Belang van Limburg, via Voetbal Primeur.
"I only have one more match to go, Tolu can still play three. But if I can score next week that will be good for STVV. And that is the most important thing."
Arokodare notched seventeen goals in thirty appearances during the regular season and has been inconsistent in the Champions’ Playoff, scoring three goals in seven matches.
Should he finish as the league's top scorer, he would emulate Joseph Akpala, Tosin Dosunmu and Paul Onuachu, who have all previously won the Golden Boot in the Belgian top-flight.
