Swindon Town release midfielder who spent 15 years at Chelsea, offer deal to ex-Flying Eagles star
Published: May 09, 2025
Following the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season, Swindon Town has confirmed its retained and released list, with key decisions made regarding two London-born Nigerian midfielders.
Eight players are departing Swindon Town, including Chelsea academy graduate Tariq Uwakwe, whose contract expires on June 30, 2025.
Uwakwe was on the books of Chelsea for fifteen years but left Stamford Bridge in 2022 with zero appearances for the first team.
He was a member of the Chelsea U18 squad that won the domestic treble in the 2017-2018 campaign, and was an unused substitute in the UEFA Youth League final against Barcelona in April 2018.
After leaving Chelsea, Uwakwe wore the colours of Crewe Alexandra, before transferring to Swindon Town in August 2023.
In his two seasons at Swindon Town, the Chelsea youth product played eleven games, with a goal and an assist to his name.
The Robins are interested in keeping former Nigeria U20 international Nnamdi Ofoborh and have offered him fresh terms before the start of pre-season preparations.
After spells with Millwall, Bournemouth, Wycombe Wanderers and Rangers, Ofoborh joined Swindon in March 2024 following a mutual departure from the Scottish Premiership giants.
Since his arrival at the County Ground, he has scored three goals in 49 appearances.
Meanwhile, Tunmise Sobowale is among fourteen players under contract for the 2025-2026 season, and has been retained.
