Victor the marksman: Osimhen equals Gomis and Icardi feat as Galatasaray seal Super Lig title
Published: May 18, 2025
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his blistering form in front of goal, scoring the opener as Galatasaray clinched a comfortable 3-0 win over Kayserispor at Rams Park on Sunday evening.
The Nigerian forward struck in the 26th minute, rising above a congested box to head home a well-placed corner kick from Gabriel Sara.
The goal marked Osimhen’s 25th in 29 league appearances, further strengthening his lead in the race for the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot.
According to the statisticians at Opta, the Napoli loanee is the third foreign player in Galatasaray history to score 25 goals in a Super Lig season, after Bafetimbi Gomis (2017-2018) and Mauro Icardi (2023-2024).
Galatasaray, buoyed by Osimhen’s first-half effort, maintained control for much of the match and eventually sealed the win to secure the league title in front of their home fans.
With just two matches remaining in the campaign, Galatasaray hold an eight-point lead over Fenerbahçe at the top of the table.
The Yellow-Reds sit comfortably on 89 points, while their closest rivals trail with 81 points.
Osimhen’s current tally puts him four goals ahead of Krzysztof Piątek, who sits second with 21 goals.
With only two matches left in the season, the 26-year-old is now on the verge of claiming the top scorer’s prize.
Across all competitions, Osimhen has now recorded an impressive 36 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances, underscoring his importance to the Yellow-Reds' securing a domestic double.
However, the forward's exceptional performances have sparked speculation about his future, with multiple top European clubs reportedly monitoring him ahead of the summer transfer window.
