'Player of the season is Osimhen' - History-making manager backs Galatasaray star for top award
Published: May 19, 2025
Former Besiktas manager Sergen Yalcin has hailed Victor Osimhen as the standout performer in the Turkish Super Lig this season, tipping the Nigerian striker for the coveted Player of the Season award following his sensational loan spell with Galatasaray.
Yalcin made history in 2021 as the first individual to secure Super Lig titles with Besiktas in both playing and managerial roles.
Osimhen, who joined the Yellow-Reds from Napoli, has played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s dominant campaign, helping them clinch the league title and the domestic cup.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international has lit up the Turkish football scene, netting 36 goals and contributing eight assists in just 40 appearances across all competitions.
His consistent brilliance has attracted praise from across the football community, with Yalcin being the latest to applaud the striker's influence and form.
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi, Yalcin lauded Osimhen’s performances and backed him to win the Player of the Season award.
"I think the player of the season is Osimhen. It is very difficult to choose players from other teams anyway," he said.
"If we were to form an 11, you would get at least 6-7 players from Galatasaray. You wouldn't just get a right back and a left back."
However, his standout performances have sparked uncertainty about his future, with several top European clubs expressing interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
As the summer window approaches, Osimhen will hope to continue his fine form and end the season on a positive note.
