Confirmed: Son of former Super Eagles midfielder released by Birmingham City
Published: May 20, 2025
Championship newcomers Birmingham City have officially published their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, confirming the departure of ten young professionals, including Femi Olofinjana.
Femi, the son of former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, is among those set to leave the club upon the expiration of their contracts.
Also departing are Ben Beresford, Junior Dixon, Taylor Dodd, Laiith Fairnie, Harley Hamilton, Josh Home, Sahid Kamara, Stoyan Pergelov and Oliver Sayer.
Femi joined Birmingham City on a professional contract in July 2023 after his release from West Bromwich Albion.
A versatile defender capable of playing both at centre-back and left-back, he spent the past season with the club’s development squad, notably scoring in a Premier League 2 fixture against Millwall U21s in September.
In a bid to gain senior experience, the 20-year-old also spent time on loan at Redditch United, who compete in the Southern League Premier Division.
Eligible to represent England, Nigeria and Norway, Olofinjana is provisionally cap-tied to the Scandinavian nation, having featured at U17, U18 and U19 levels.
Meanwhile, the Blues have exercised the option to extend Daniel Isichei’s contract, with the promising attacker expected to report for pre-season training unless a loan move is arranged.
