Nigeria targets Nwaneri and Goodman named in England U21 squad for pre-Euro training camp

Two players targeted by the Nigeria Football Federation have been included in the England squad for a training camp at St. George's Park ahead of this summer's European U21 Championship.
Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri and Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman are part of the training camp squad announced by the English Football Association on Friday.
Nwaneri is among the dual-national players on the radar of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, neither the Nigeria Football Federation nor Eric Chelle has reached out to Nwaneri, his representatives, or his family at this time.
Goodman is a player of interest to the Nigeria Football Federation, having been invited to the Flying Eagles training camp before the 2023 U20 Afcon.
His visit to NFF President Ibrahim Gusau last summer sparked speculation that he remains open to representing the Super Eagles, despite featuring for England and Canada at youth level.
Goodman has received his first call-up to England U21s following an outstanding season at AFC Wimbledon, where he posted twenty-one clean sheets to win the Golden Glove award for the division.
Nwaneri, Goodman and the other selected players will gather at the national football centre for training ahead of manager Lee Carsley's final 23-man squad announcement for the European Championship on Friday, June 6.
Defending champions England will face Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany in the group stage of the U21 Euro.
