'Actually, neither'- Slavia midfielder David snubs Messi, Ronaldo for Neymar, Moses Simon
Published: May 24, 2025
Slavia Prague midfielder David Moses has revealed his footballing inspirations, and surprisingly, they do not include global icons Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a recent interview with Football Club, the Nigerian talent named Brazilian star Neymar and Super Eagles winger Moses Simon as the players who most influenced his playing style and mindset.
David Moses, who is gradually making a name for himself in the Czech Republic, admitted that while growing up in Nigeria, he didn’t exactly have traditional role models, but admired certain players for their passion and flair.
"I wouldn't say role models, but I like the style of some players. For example, Moses Simon, the winger for French club Nantes," David Moses said.
"Even though we play in different positions, I like the passion he plays with."
Moses Simon, who has been a regular for Nigeria’s national team and a consistent performer in Ligue 1, clearly left an impression on the young midfielder, who values dedication and energy on the pitch.
When asked if he identified more with Messi or Ronaldo, David Moses offered a candid response: "Actually, neither. I respect both, but when I scored goals or did something, I was Neymar."
Neymar, known for his flair, creativity, and expressive style appears to have been the standout influence on David Moses' own approach to the game, especially when it comes to celebrating and enjoying football.
The 21-year-old’s admiration for Simon and Neymar over more mainstream figures like Messi and Ronaldo gives insight into the kind of player he hopes to become – expressive, passionate, and dynamic.
As David Moses continues to develop at Slavia Prague, fans will be keen to see how these influences shape his performances and career trajectory.
