Slavia's rock at the back Igoh Ogbu reflects on title win and Nigeria's growing love for Czech football
Published: May 25, 2025
Speaking after the final game of the 2024-2025 season, Super Eagles invitee for the upcoming matches against Ghana and Russia, Igoh Ogbu was delighted to win his first league title with Slavia Prague.
With four games to spare, Slavia Prague were crowned champions of the Chance League, securing their 22nd title with a commanding 5-0 win in Olomouc.
Ogbu ended speculation about his future ahead of the start of pre-season preparations by putting pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Slavia Prague until December 31, 2027.
"I feel amazing, it's my first time to lift this trophy. It's proud moment for me, for my family as well. I'm just happy, I don't know how to describe the feeling," Igoh Ogbu told Oneplay Sport.
Slavia Prague dominated the Czech top-flight this season, finishing as champions with an impressive defensive record — conceding just 18 goals.
"Our coach focused more on defence. We built from the back and attacked with purpose. That’s why we came out best," Ogbu explained.
"It's good for me as a defender and for everyone in the locker room. That’s how you win games and trophies."
Ogbu celebrated with a Nigerian flag draped around his shoulders, symbolizing not just personal pride, but also national recognition.
"A lot of people know about Czech football because of me. They know it's a good place to play, so Nigerians watch a lot of Czech football now," he added.
Ogbu joined Slavia Prague in January 2023 after previous stints with Norwegian clubs Rosenborg, Levanger, Sogndal and Lillestrom.
The 25-year-old has made 93 appearances for Slavia, scoring five goals and registering two assists.
