Confirmed: Super Eagles-eligible Trinidad and Tobago international returns to Coventry City
Published: May 28, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Championship outfit Coventry City have announced their released, retained and returned list following the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season.
Coventry City published the list on Wednesday because they were involved in the Championship playoffs, where they suffered defeat to Sunderland.
The Sky Blues have informed that Trinidad and Tobago international of Nigerian descent Justin Obikwu is returning to the club following his loan stint at League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
Obikwu has featured in two international friendlies for Trinidad and Tobago, but remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles.
Since his appearances were in non-competitive matches, he does not require a formal change of association to switch allegiance to Nigeria.
He was not on duty for the Soca Warriors on Tuesday as they were beaten 3-2 by Jamaica in the first game of the 2025 Unity Cup.
The promising forward has been on the books of Coventry City since the 2021-2022 season but has yet to make his senior debut for the club despite receiving thirteen call-ups for first team games.
He spent time on loan at Grimsby Town in the second half of the 2023-2024 campaign and the entirety of last season, scoring ten goals in 38 matches across all competitions.
A product of Harefield United, he signed his first professional contract with Coventry City in the summer of 2023.
