Atalanta join AC Milan in race for second youngest Nigeria-eligible player in Serie A history
Published: June 27, 2025
According to transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta have opened talks with Genoa talent Honest Ahanor to get him as a new left wing-back.
When Ahanor made his Serie A debut for Genoa against Juventus in September 2024, he became the second youngest Nigeria-eligible player to appear in Italy's top-flight.
Aged 16 years and 218 days at the time, Ahanor's milestone is surpassed only by Bologna's Italian-Nigerian-Togolese defender Wisdom Amey, who featured at 15 years and 274 days.
Ahanor joins a list of possible replacements for Matteo Ruggeri who is on the verge of signing for Atletico Madrid.
As previously reported, he has also caught the eye of AC Milan who are in talks with Saudi side Al-Hilal concerning Theo Hernandez's exit.
Both Italian clubs will now slug it out to win the race for his signature.
The news of his talent has also spread to other countries with AS Monaco rumoured to be interested in the left-back.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Atalanta has begun processes to bring the highly coveted youngster to Bergamo.
However, a potential transfer fee is still to be agreed upon with Genoa.
Links to multiple European clubs come as no surprise as his talent has been acknowledged by fans generally and highly rated to go on to become a top player.
As the transfer window progresses, Honest Ahanor is expected to decide on where he will play next season.
