Liverpool in contract talks with history-making forward eligible for Flying Eagles

Liverpool are actively pursuing a new long-term contract for their highly-rated academy star, Rio Ngumoha, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 16-year-old winger is eligible to represent the Flying Eagles through his Nigerian heritage but is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, England.

Ngumoha has emerged as one of English football’s most promising talents since joining Liverpool’s academy from Chelsea in September 2024.

Romano revealed on X that Liverpool are planning to advance negotiations to secure Ngumoha’s future, with discussions ongoing for a long-term deal.

The move highlights the club’s confidence in the 'sensational' 2008-born talent, whose electrifying pace, skillful dribbling, and technical ability have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s elite wingers.

Ngumoha etched his name in the club’s record books on January 11, 2025, debuting in the FA Cup against Accrington Stanley at 16 years and 135 days old, becoming the youngest player to represent Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Under manager Arne Slot, Ngumoha has already trained with the first team, signaling a clear pathway to senior football—a key factor in his decision to leave Chelsea.

The transfer, which underwent a Premier League investigation as standard for academy moves, underscored Liverpool’s ambition to nurture elite talent.

As Ngumoha approaches his 17th birthday, Liverpool’s proactive approach to securing his signature reflects their commitment to building a squad around young, dynamic players.
