Two French clubs in talks with Newcastle United over loan move for Nigerian winger
Published: August 28, 2025
England U18 international of Nigerian descent Trevan Sanusi could be loaned out by Newcastle United before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Sky Sports, Ligue 1 clubs Auxerre and Le Havre are in talks with the Magpies over a temporary deal for the highly rated winger as they look to secure his services for the 2025-2026 campaign.
Sanusi, 18, has been on the fringes of Eddie Howe’s first-team squad, featuring in pre-season training and earning call-ups for friendlies against Atlético Madrid and RCD Espanyol, though he remained an unused substitute in both matches.
Competition for places in Newcastle’s attack remains fierce, with the youngster sitting behind Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, William Osula, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy in the pecking order.
The Anglo-Nigerian forward made his senior debut in January 2025, replacing Osula in the closing stages of a 3-1 FA Cup third-round win over Bromley.
However, he has not featured for the first team since and was omitted from the matchday squads for Newcastle’s opening Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Sanusi joined Newcastle from Birmingham City in 2023 on schoolboy terms and went on to sign his first professional contract at St James’ Park in May 2024.
A loan move is viewed as a key step in his development, offering the teenager an opportunity to gain regular senior minutes abroad.
