Super Eagles-eligible duo left on bench as Chelsea beat PSG to win Fifa Club World Cup
Published: July 13, 2025
Chelsea secured the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, with Super Eagles-eligible stars Tosin Adarabioyo and Tyrique George part of the victorious squad.
Enzo Maresca’s Blues outclassed the UEFA Champions League winners in a one-sided final.
Although Adarabioyo and George remained on the bench during the final, both had made their mark earlier in the tournament.
The 27-year-old centre-back Adarabioyo scored a crucial header in Chelsea’s 3-0 group stage win over Esperance de Tunis, showcasing his aerial prowess and defensive solidity.
Similarly, 19-year-old winger Tyrique George, eligible for Nigeria and Ghana, netted a stoppage-time goal in the same match, becoming Chelsea’s youngest scorer in the tournament at 19 years and 141 days.
Their contributions helped Chelsea advance to the knockout stages.
In the final, Chelsea’s goals came from Cole Palmer, who scored twice in the 22nd and 30th minutes, and Joao Pedro, whose cheeky 43rd-minute chip sealed the rout.
PSG’s challenge faltered when Joao Neves was sent off in the 86th minute, leaving them with ten men.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s heroics ensured a clean sheet, thwarting PSG’s attacking efforts.
Adarabioyo’s growing influence and George’s breakout season, highlighted by his UEFA Conference League performances, underscore their potential for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
This victory marks Chelsea’s second Club World Cup title, with Adarabioyo and George’s roles in the tournament signaling bright futures, both at club level and potentially on the international stage.
