RB Leipzig have emerged as the latest Bundesliga club linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, a player being monitored by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

According to Sky Sport Germany transfer market expert, Florian Plettenberg, RB  Leipzig are actively pushing to sign the England youth international of Nigerian descent, and have already opened talks with Chelsea.

Further negotiations are scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, as the Red Bulls weigh up a permanent deal.

Chelsea, who are looking to balance their books and trim their squad, are open to parting ways with the 21-year-old but only on a permanent basis.

Borussia Dortmund are also keen to re-sign Chukwuemeka after a brief loan spell last season in which he made 17 appearances and scored once.

However, the Black and Yellows are only interested in a loan arrangement, a stance Chelsea have firmly rejected.

RB Leipzig's serious intent to secure Chukwuemeka could unlock a mutually beneficial deal involving highly rated Dutch international Xavi Simons.

Chelsea are reportedly eager to bring Simons to Stamford Bridge, and Leipzig's pursuit of Chukwuemeka might serve as a negotiating lever.

A potential deal could see Simons move to Stamford Bridge and Chukwuemeka head to Leipzig, with the German club benefiting from a financial incentive to help balance the books.

Signed from Aston Villa in 2022, Chukwuemeka has three years left on his contract with Chelsea.
