Super Eagles player ratings: Fredrick outstanding, Osimhen decisive, Bassey reliable, Ejuke super-sub

Nigeria advanced to the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco with a convincing 4–1 victory over Gabon in Morocco.

The starters

Goalkeeper

Stanley Nwabali (6/10): Another shaky outing from the goalkeeper, who looked uncertain with his positioning for Gabon's goal.

Defenders

Benjamin Frederick (8.5/10): Outstanding at the back. The youngster kept Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quiet for most of the game and delivered a superb assist for Osimhen's first goal.

Calvin Bassey (7.5/10): A solid defensive presence, strong in aerial duels and composed in build-up play.

Zaidu Sanusi (7/10): Energetic display down the left flank, contributing both defensively and offensively, especially in the first half.

Bright Osayi-Samuel (5.5/10): Had a difficult battle against Denis Bouanga and Mario Lemina but stayed disciplined and contributed to the team's defensive structure.

Wilfred Ndidi (7/10): Recovered well after an early booking to put in a commanding midfield display. Provided a crucial assist in extra time.

Midfielders and forwards

Alex Iwobi (7/10) A tidy performance in midfield, linking play effectively and helping control possession.

Ademola Lookman (6/10) :Struggled to influence proceedings and was replaced early in the second half after a subdued showing.

Samuel Chukwueze  (5/10) Failed to make much impact on the right wing and was withdrawn after the break.

Victor Osimhen (8/10) : Redeemed himself after a frustrating 90 minutes with two decisive goals in extra time to seal the win for Nigeria.

Akor Adams (7/10) Worked hard alongside Osimhen and showed composure to score Nigeria's opener in the second half.

The substitutes

Moses Simon (6/10): Brought on to inject pace but struggled to make a significant impact.

Chidera Ejuke: (8/10 )A game-changer. Caused constant problems for the Gabonese defense and scored early in extra time to restore Nigeria's lead.

Frank Onyeka (6/10): Helped stabilize the midfield after coming on.

Chidozie Awaziem (7/10): Replaced Osayi-Samuel late on and contributed with an assist for Osimhen's second goal.

William Troost-Ekong: Came on too late to be rated. N/A

Tolu Arokodare: A late substitute with minimal involvement. N/A
