'He's in a brace now' – Rangers boss confirms Dessers suffered 'nasty' ankle injury v Viktoria Plzen

Rangers manager Russell Martin has confirmed that Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers sustained an ankle injury during Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Viktoria Plzen.

Dessers, who has been linked with a summer move away from Ibrox, was forced off in the second half and replaced by Brazilian forward Danilo.

The 30-year-old, Rangers’ top scorer last season, has attracted interest from Greek champions AEK Athens in the summer transfer window.

Speaking after the match, Martin described the injury as ‘nasty’ and revealed that the striker is currently in a brace, with a scan scheduled to assess the extent of the damage.

"Yeah, it looks a nasty one. So he’s in a brace now. We’ll have to just wait and see over the next couple of days, have a scan and see,” Martin told reporters, as quoted by The Daily Record

"We’ll keep our fingers crossed it’s not too bad for the big man."

With the transfer window set to close in a matter of days, Dessers will be hoping for positive news as he looks to maintain his form and resolve his future.

The Super Eagles star opened his season account in last week’s first-leg clash at Ibrox, marking his only goal in six appearances so far this campaign.

Rangers will face Club Brugge in the Champions League playoff round, with the first leg in Glasgow on Tuesday, August 19, followed by the return leg on Wednesday, August 27 at Jan Breydel Stadium.
