Super Eagles team news pre-Red Devils: Manyo suffers shoulder injury, GK Ani still sidelined

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B are gearing up for their final Group D match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Congo's Red Devils on Tuesday, August 19, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The Eric Chelle-led team, yet to secure a win or score a goal in the tournament, suffered a 1-0 opening defeat to defending champions Senegal before a heavy 4-0 loss to Sudan confirmed their elimination from the competition.

As such, the clash with Congo is a dead-rubber, offering the squad a chance to finish the group stage on a positive note.

Training ahead of the match has been impacted by injury concerns.

Defender Stephen Manyo sustained a shoulder injury during a session, with early reports suggesting a tendon strain that casts doubt on his availability.

Goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani remains sidelined, still recovering from a knee injury that prevented him from featuring in the earlier group matches.

The team will need to adjust its lineup accordingly, relying on available players to fill key roles.

Despite the setbacks, the squad is focused on putting in a disciplined and spirited performance.

Nigeria, who qualified for the tournament with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana, will be aiming to restore some pride against a Congo side still fighting for a quarter-final spot.

Kickoff for the final Group D fixture is set for 8:00 PM local time (6:00 PM Nigerian time), giving the Super Eagles B an opportunity to close their CHAN 2024 campaign with a display of character and commitment.
