'I know his trademark cross' – Fulham midfielder Smith Rowe on Iwobi's assist v Man United
Published: August 24, 2025
Fulham and Manchester United shared the spoils in a Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
The spotlight fell on Emile Smith Rowe, who made an instant impact off the bench.
Smith Rowe needed just one minute and thirty-three seconds and a single touch to score Fulham's equalizer, converting a precise cross from Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi joined Fulham from Everton in 2023, with Smith Rowe arriving from Arsenal a year later.
Their long-standing connection dates back to their time at Hale End Academy and their years together at Arsenal.
"I know his trademark cross. I knew where he was going to play and I just had to make sure I was there at the right time,” Smith Rowe told Premier League Productions after the match.
Iwobi, whose assist proved decisive, highlighted the understanding between the pair
"I'll be honest this time, I did it for Raul, but then I know he (Smith Rowe) makes that run in behind as well, so I just put it in the area and I trust him to get on to the ball."
Since joining Fulham, Iwobi and Smith Rowe have shared the pitch in 39 matches, combining for four goal contributions.
The Nigeria international has assisted the Englishman three times, providing key passes in matches against Newcastle United, Southampton and Manchester United.
Iwobi is expected to be involved next weekend when Fulham take on Chelsea in a London derby before reporting to Uyo for Super Eagles duty for next month's World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
