Wolves-bound Uche plays through the pain barrier in Getafe's win at Sevilla
Published: August 25, 2025
Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche showed remarkable resilience by playing through the pain barrier to help Getafe secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Sevilla despite links to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Uche, who played a key role in Getafe’s opening-day win over Celta Vigo, battled through discomfort, frequently clutching different parts of his body as he soldiered on for the entire match.
Adrián Liso gave the Madrid outfit an early lead in the 15th minute, but Sevilla drew level just before halftime when Juan Iglesias inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
However, Getafe restored the lead six minutes into the start of the second half after Chidera Ejuke was dispossessed in midfield, allowing Luis Milla to find Adrian Liso, who found the bottom corner.
Despite battling fitness concerns, Uche remained a commanding presence for Getafe at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Monday night.
His influential display has underlined his importance to the squad while fueling speculation over his future amid strong links to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Premier League side are understood to have tabled a €20 million (₦35.6 billion) bid for the versatile Nigerian midfielder ahead of the summer transfer deadline.
Although Uche’s contract with Getafe runs until 2028 and includes a €25 million release clause, the Spanish club, grappling with financial challenges, are reportedly willing to accept an offer closer to about €20 million.
With just one week remaining before the transfer window closes, the Nigerian international will look to resolve his future while keeping his attention on helping the Super Eagles overcome South Africa and Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this September.
